You often ask us the same question: how to correctly measure the door opening for a loft steel door? At what point should the measurement take place, so that you can be sure that the door will fit well, which will in turn ensure an aesthetic installation.
The solution is very easy with standard loft doors. The dimensions of the door opening are given on the page and are unchangeable for the 80, 90 and 100 dimensions. The finishing team is responsible for finishing the door opening to the size of standard doors. In this case, you can order the door "blind", because you know in advance what its size will be. However, if you want to prepare a loft door for an unusual size, you should remember about a few basic things.
How the doorway should be finished before instation of steel doors?
As loft doors are installed inside a door opening, there is a small margin of free space (3 mm on each side of the frame). Since the space is very small, you must measure a ready, finished door opening. Only then can you be sure that the dimensions will not change. The floor should also be finished, so that its thickness is also included in the dimensions being measured.
Measuring the dororway for steel doors
It is best to measure a door opening when everything is finished, the walls are smooth and the floor is laid on the ground. With such an opening, you can be sure that the dimensions are final. A piece of paper and something to write will be useful during the measurements. In order for the measurement to be correct, it must be carried out at 6 locations.
Three vertical measurements:
• Left side,
• Centre,
• Right side.
Three horizontal measurements:
• Top,
• Centre,
• Bottom.
Use a construction ruler or a laser rangefinder tin order to perform the measurements.
The second option is much more accurate. When measuring the dimensions this way you can be sure that everything is done as it should, and that a product with appropriate dimensions will be delivered.
