Thermally Broken Steel Windows by Portamet
Portamet is a highly skilled steel window and door manufacturer specializing in thermally broken steel windows and doors using the Jansen Janisol Arte 2.0 profile system. We produce slender, high-performance steel windows that combine the timeless elegance of classic industrial-style glazing with cutting-edge thermal insulation. As a leading steel windows producer serving clients across Central Europe, the UK, and the USA, Portamet delivers premium steel windows worldwide, engineered for both historic restoration and contemporary architectural projects. In the Janisol Arte 2.0 system, we have found the perfect blend of heritage aesthetics and modern energy efficiency, allowing our customers to enjoy authentic steel craftsmanship without compromising on comfort or performance
Advanced Thermal Break Technology
Portamet’s thermally broken steel windows deliver outstanding energy efficiency thanks to Jansen’s advanced thermal break technology built into the Arte 2.0 profiles. Each profile is composed of precision-engineered steel sections separated by a high-performance insulating bar (thermal isolator), which prevents heat transfer between the exterior and interior faces of the frame. This means despite the frame being made of steel, our windows retain heat in winter and keep out excessive heat in summer, on par with modern insulated aluminum or wood windows. The Janisol Arte 2.0 system achieves frame U-values (Uf) from around 1.9 W/m²K, and depending on glass specification, whole-window U-values (Uw) as low as 0.8 W/m²K are possible. Such thermal performance far exceeds that of traditional solid steel windows and meets stringent building regulations in Europe, the UK, and North America for energy efficiency.
In practice, this level of insulation helps maintain a comfortable indoor environment and reduces energy costs for heating or cooling. Homeowners and developers choosing Portamet’s thermally broken steel windows won’t have to worry about the condensation, drafts, or cold spots that were once a drawback of classic steel windows. Additionally, the thermally broken frames eliminate the risk of interior frost in cold climates and greatly improve condensation resistance, contributing to a healthier building interior. Thermal comfort, combined with the inherent durability of steel, makes our windows ideal for projects ranging from private residences to commercial loft conversions aiming for modern performance standards.
Versatile Configurations and Opening Types
Flexibility in design is another key strength of the Janisol Arte 2.0 system. All these opening types share the same coherent ultra-slim look and thermal performance. This versatility means that whether you need an elegant fixed window or a fully operable ventilating unit (or a combination across a façade), Portamet can deliver a solution within the Janisol Arte 2.0 range. Our engineering team works closely with architects and builders to ensure that each window or door is tailored to the required specifications, and that it will integrate seamlessly into the building’s design. Every unit is custom-manufactured to your size, configuration, and hardware needs, while maintaining the proven structural integrity and insulation of the Arte 2.0 system.
Portamet manufactures steel windows and doors in an extensive variety of configurations to suit any project needs – all using the Arte 2.0 profiles for a consistent slim look. Available window types and opening styles include:
